Area crime information

Here's some information from Vicki, who is in contact with other neighborhood groups and sources of crime information. This information is forwarded from another group.

If you have information about crime or suspicious activity here in our block watch area, please let the group know and post it here.

Thanks

Kelley

Broadview area crimes -
This month there have been two night-time entries into homes:
One was made easy by an unlocked door. While the family slept, several items (wallets & camera) were removed from the vicinity of the door.

The second entry was through an unlocked window facing the alley. Criminals took the time to lay out the occupant's jewelry on the bed and pick through what they wanted: gold items, pearls; nothing costume was taken. A large jar of change was taken from the dresser as well as a full set of silver silverware. They left laptops, prescription narcotics and other high value but traceable items.

Suspicious activity -
This info was sent out by a neighbor Blockwatch -
Location: 10th Ave. NW and NW 1
Vehicle: Forest Green Dodge Caravan
License No. 145 JMJ
1 Male, 30's??,
Details:

Had a Forest green Dodge Caravan come to my house today asking if my son's van was for sale. Small conversation, off he went, so I thought. Several minutes later he was across the street at my neighbors house knocking on the door to see if his car was for sale. Mike passed away a month ago, house not being lived in right now. I went outside to get license plate and approached the man. Said he was supposed to work on Mike's car last week............don't think so! License plate 145 JMJ. I called the police, they will investigate.

This made me VERY suspicious
One has to ask if he might be scoping things out for later

Assignment:
  • Check the locks on all your windows. Do they need safety/lock catches on them?
  • Examine the door locks, do they latch correctly or are they in need of replacement?
  • Sliding glass doors can be easily jimmied, place a bar in the slide.
  • Teenagers come home late - make sure they know how to secure the door.
  • Is your security system set when you are away? when you are asleep?
  • Lock your front door when you are in the backyard. basement or taking a nap.
Train your children to NOT open/unlock the door for any stranger.

Once when our neighbor children were home alone after school, I took some cookies over. They refused to open the door because their parents had trained them to NOT open/unlock the door to anyone. Good for them!!

Hold a security meeting with everyone in your home.

Hello, welcome, all that stuff

Thanks, everyone, for showing up today.  It was lovely to see you all again--or for the first time.

We talked about building a blog.  So I just threw this together.  We could do with a better photo for the header.  We could probably do with a better title, a better URL, a better, y'know, everything :)  But, hey, I've had three beers.  I just wanted to get started.  I'm open to suggestions...

Add a comment to tell me how you think this should work.  Add a comment (and/or drop me an email) if you'd like to be able to add your own posts.

Meanwhile, here are a couple of pix from last year's BBQ/get together/shindig.  When it was sunny.  (Note to self: let's do this in June or July next year.)
